A village group wanting to save our precious farmland from over development by councils and developers

Green not Grey came about due to a group of Warboys village residents wanted to make a stand against our district council wanting to sell off valuable fertile farming land to developers. The developers and council want to build more houses on land that has been used for farming and food production for the past 150 years.

Our group do not dispute that there is a housing shortage across the UK and the government have a quota they are trying to achieve by 2036.

There seems to be a lack of thought and strategy being given by local planners, district and county councils and central government when it comes to thinking about the larger picture of housing in general.

It seems that we have many departments and organisations all pulling in different directions, all with their own hidden and visible agendas.

This current application seems to be the tip of the iceberg. With councils across the country having to deal with deficits in their finances, it seems that selling off parcels of land whether green, agricultural, urban, inner city or brownfield, their overall appetite seems to stop once the sale of the land has been agreed and the application process has began. Councils are interested in the sale and then only once the properties have been built and sold when they receive their further fees related to council tax.

It appears from the outside that no real thought goes into the validation of what impact a new development will have on an existing settlement. There seems to be too many loopholes and excuses allowing councils and developers to get away with murder.

With the costs of food increasing at rates never seen in our lifetime, we need to take a stand and say no to the destruction of this valuable land in favour of councils and developers wanting to make a quick profit at any expense.
